WTF Photo

The curiosity is killing me!

I must appeal to the precious few—do y’all have any clues?!

At first I thought mushrooms coming up, maybe puffballs? But why the delay, and the slimy texture? Is that the ‘universal veil’ splitting? But if so, why that off color??

I saw these two bizarre emerging ‘eggs’ two days ago while mushroom hunting. Today I took a few photos, they are more exposed than when I first saw them. The whiteish surface is kinda slimy.

Any expertise out there, or just some random guesses??

  5. Some of those stink horns look positively X-rated! Yes, I think y’all are right. I’m going to keep a close eye on it the next few days and hope to see the ‘phallus’ stage. LOL! 😆

  6. I looked up stink horn & that could be what they are. The stink part comes from them emitting a stink that resembles a dead corpse, & then at another stage they send out red arms that resemble an octopus. It says they’re slimy but edible at certain stages. Sounds like more trouble than they’re worth. I like the guess that they could be alien eggs, they’re certainly weird enough. Gave me a chuckle.
