It’s very zen to watch the bees, I find. Next time I’ll figure out how to add sound—I love that soothing buzz of what appears to be such well-ordered chaos—Such miracles in nature!
I was watching your bees & wondered what several were doing to the front of their landing ledge. Are they cleaning it? They almost look like little vacuum cleaners.
They are creating a “scent gate” essentially. They spread the hive pheromones at the entrance so any robber bees or other intruders will not pass the sniff test for entry. There could be hygienic purpose too, or multiple other reasons, much about bee behavior is still a mystery. 🙂
